Blood Moon to Appear Over Pakistan During Lunar Eclipse
Pakistan will witness a rare Blood Moon during the upcoming total lunar eclipse on September 17, 2025. Find out timing, visibility, and expert insights for this breathtaking celestial event.

Skywatchers in Pakistan are in for a celestial treat as the country is set to witness a rare Blood Moon during the upcoming lunar eclipse later this month. Astronomers confirm that the phenomenon will be visible from multiple regions, giving stargazers a chance to experience one of nature’s most mesmerizing events.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), the total lunar eclipse will occur on the night of September 17, 2025, and will be visible across Pakistan, South Asia, Europe, Africa, and parts of the Middle East.
A Blood Moon occurs during a total lunar eclipse when the Earth comes directly between the Sun and the Moon, blocking sunlight. Instead of going completely dark, the Moon appears deep red or copper-colored due to the scattering of sunlight through the Earth’s atmosphere — a phenomenon known as Rayleigh scattering.

SUPARCO officials have advised astronomy enthusiasts to mark their calendars, as this event offers a once-in-several-years opportunity to witness the Moon in a blood-red hue.
Astronomer Dr. Saima Iqbal from Karachi University’s Institute of Space Science explained:
“This lunar eclipse will be special because of the exceptional clarity predicted for Pakistan’s skies. It’s a great chance for students, researchers, and the public to witness one of the most stunning cosmic spectacles.”
She also advised people to use telescopes or binoculars for a closer view, though the event will be perfectly visible to the naked eye.
The Blood Moon phenomenon is considered rare because total lunar eclipses don’t occur every year. The last visible Blood Moon in Pakistan was recorded in May 2022. Astronomers worldwide are preparing for detailed observations, making this event significant for both scientific research and astronomy enthusiasts.
The upcoming Blood Moon will be a visual delight for skywatchers across Pakistan. As the Moon turns crimson during the lunar eclipse, this rare celestial event will provide an unforgettable experience for astronomy lovers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts alike.
