BYD Pakistan has announced delays in car deliveries due to ongoing global supply chain issues. Customers are advised to expect longer wait times while the company works to resolve the disruptions as quickly as possible.

  • BYD Pakistan announces a delay in deliveries of its electric vehicles across the country.

  • Global supply chain crisis, chip shortages, and shipping delays cited as main reasons.

  • Popular models like BYD Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal were impacted.

  • The company assures customers of timely communication and resolution plans.

  • Reflects a broader trend affecting multiple automakers in Pakistan and worldwide.

BYD, short for "Build Your Dreams," is a global leader in electric vehicle manufacturing, headquartered in China. The brand made a splash in Pakistan with its stylish, sustainable, and tech-forward EVs, providing an alternative to traditional combustion engine vehicles amid rising fuel costs.

BYD Pakistan, in partnership with Mega Conglomerate, officially began local operations in 2023 and has since gained significant traction among environmentally conscious consumers.

In a public advisory issued this week, BYD Pakistan acknowledged ongoing delays in the delivery of pre-booked vehicles. The company attributed this to a combination of global supply chain bottlenecks and regional shipping constraints.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our valued customers. The current delays are a result of unprecedented global logistics and semiconductor supply issues. We are working closely with our international teams to resolve this and fulfill all deliveries as soon as possible,” the statement read.

BYD is not alone. A perfect storm of supply chain challenges is affecting automakers across the globe, especially those in the electric vehicle segment. The primary causes include:

Modern EVs are highly dependent on microchips. Due to global chip shortages—worsened by the pandemic and geopolitical tensions—production timelines have been pushed back.

Many of BYD’s vehicles are manufactured in China and shipped to Pakistan. Port congestion, container shortages, and customs delays have disrupted this flow.

As more countries transition to electric mobility, manufacturers like BYD are facing record-high demand, causing strain on production capacity.

Pakistan’s fluctuating import policies, currency instability, and documentation procedures also add layers of complexity to timely vehicle imports.

The delay reportedly affects all major BYD models in Pakistan, including:

  • BYD Atto 3 – A compact SUV known for its advanced safety features and range.

  • BYD Dolphin – A popular city-friendly hatchback.

  • BYD Seal – A luxury EV sedan praised for performance and design.

Customers who pre-booked these models for delivery between April and June 2025 are most likely to face delays ranging from 2 to 6 weeks, depending on model availability and location.

To mitigate customer dissatisfaction, BYD Pakistan has rolled out several initiatives:

Customers can now access real-time updates on their vehicle’s delivery status via a new tracking system.

Automated updates are being sent to customers via email and SMS to inform them about revised delivery dates.

BYD has published estimated delivery windows by model and region to manage expectations.

While many customers have shown understanding, some have expressed frustration over the lack of early communication. Here's what a few BYD buyers had to say:

“I was really looking forward to my new Atto 3 this Eid, but now it looks like I’ll have to wait another month. At least BYD is being honest about it,” — Ahmed R., Karachi

“This is disappointing. I hope the company offers some sort of compensation or service upgrade for the delay,” — Samra K., Lahore
