The Government of Pakistan has announced an extension in the electricity bill payment deadline for consumers living in flood-affected areas across the country. The decision has been made to provide financial relief to households and businesses struggling due to the ongoing flood crisis.

According to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), the deadline for payment of July and August electricity bills has been extended by 15 days for the affected districts. No late payment surcharge (LPS) or penalty will be applied during this period.

  • Deadline Extension: 15-day grace period for electricity bill payments

  • Applicable Areas: Flood-affected districts in Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

  • No Late Fees: Consumers will not face late payment surcharges

  • Objective: Provide financial relief to flood-hit families and businesses

In an official statement, the Power Division said:

“The government understands the hardships faced by citizens due to severe flooding in multiple regions. To ease the financial burden, the due date for electricity bills has been extended, and no additional charges will be imposed.”

The government has also instructed distribution companies (DISCOs), including LESCO, MEPCO, HESCO, SEPCO, and QESCO, to facilitate consumers by updating their billing systems accordingly.

The devastating monsoon floods have displaced thousands of families and caused significant damage to infrastructure, including the power supply network. Many residents have lost their homes, businesses, and livelihoods.

By extending the bill payment deadline, the government aims to:

  • Support households struggling to recover from losses

  • Reduce financial stress on small businesses

  • Allow more time for residents to manage payments without penalties

This move is part of the government’s broader flood relief strategy, which includes:

  • Cash assistance programs for displaced families

  • Restoration of damaged power infrastructure

  • Medical camps in affected regions

  • Coordination with NDMA and provincial authorities for rescue and rehabilitation efforts

Consumers in eligible flood-affected districts are advised to:

Check their new bill due dates via official distribution company websites or helplines.

Avoid making payments before the extended deadlines unless convenient.

Contact the respective DISCO’s customer care center for any billing issues.

Energy experts have welcomed the move, calling it a necessary step to support struggling communities.

“In times of natural disasters, such measures are crucial to prevent further financial hardships for the affected population,” said Dr. Sara Khan, an energy policy analyst.

The government’s decision to extend the electricity bill payment deadline in flood-hit regions provides much-needed relief for affected families and businesses. As recovery and rehabilitation efforts continue, authorities are also working on long-term solutions to strengthen infrastructure resilience against future disasters.
