Govt Poised to Raise Petrol Prices From November 1 Amid Global Market Volatility

Pakistan’s government is likely to announce another increase in petrol and diesel prices this week, effective from November 1, 2025, as global oil prices continue to fluctuate and pressure builds on domestic energy costs.

According to official sources in the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), a price summary has been forwarded to the Ministry of Finance recommending a marginal upward revision across all petroleum products. The proposed changes, if approved, would raise petrol prices by up to Rs 1.48 per litre, high-speed diesel by Rs 1.38, kerosene by Rs 2.34, and light diesel oil by Rs 0.49 per litre.

Officials attributed the expected hike to recent volatility in the international crude oil market, where benchmark prices surged following renewed geopolitical tensions and U.S. sanctions on major oil-producing nations. The global developments have also contributed to the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee, further straining domestic fuel import costs.

Industry analysts say the increase though modest compared to previous adjustments could still have a ripple effect on transportation, goods delivery, and food prices, deepening inflationary pressure already faced by households.

Background and Context

Over the past six months, Pakistan has experienced frequent fuel price revisions as part of IMF-mandated fiscal adjustments and global energy market instability. The government maintains that these bi-weekly adjustments are essential to ensure transparency and prevent unsustainable subsidies.

Economists, however, warn that persistent increases could slow down industrial recovery and raise logistics costs affecting everything from public transport fares to essential commodities.
