September 8, 2025: Pakistan Navy Day was observed across the country today to honor the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of naval officers and sailors during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. The day is marked annually on September 8 in recognition of Operation Dwarka, a historic naval offensive that demonstrated the Pakistan Navy’s strength and strategic excellence.

On this occasion, the Pakistan Navy reaffirmed its commitment to defending the nation’s maritime frontiers. Special prayers and ceremonies were held at naval bases, headquarters, and units nationwide, paying tribute to the martyrs and veterans of the 1965 war.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff, in his Navy Day message, said:

“Pakistan Navy’s brave sailors and officers wrote a golden chapter of history during the 1965 war. Their courage and professionalism remain a source of inspiration, and the Navy continues to evolve with modern capabilities to safeguard Pakistan’s maritime interests.”

He further emphasized that the Pakistan Navy remains fully prepared to deal with emerging security challenges in the Indian Ocean region.

On the night of September 7–8, 1965, the Pakistan Navy carried out Operation Dwarka, targeting the Indian coastal town of Dwarka. The operation inflicted significant damage and showcased the Navy’s ability to strike deep into enemy territory. This historic victory cemented Pakistan Navy’s reputation as a formidable maritime force.

  • Wreath-laying ceremonies were held at the mausoleums of naval martyrs.

  • Pakistan Navy ships were illuminated at ports to mark the occasion.

  • A special documentary highlighting the Navy’s role in the 1965 war was aired on national television.

  • Educational institutions also arranged seminars and events to educate youth about the importance of Navy Day.

Beyond its historic achievements, the Pakistan Navy today plays a vital role in:

  • Safeguarding sea lines of communication (SLOCs).

  • Countering piracy and maritime terrorism.

  • Conducting humanitarian and disaster relief operations.

  • Contributing to regional peace through multinational naval exercises.

The Navy is also advancing projects like the development of Gwadar Port, participation in CPEC maritime security, and induction of modern warships, submarines, and drones to strengthen Pakistan’s defense.

Pakistan Navy Day 2025 is not just a commemoration of past victories but also a reaffirmation of the Navy’s readiness to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty. The sacrifices of the 1965 war heroes continue to inspire the armed forces and the nation as Pakistan faces new regional and global challenges.
