Transporters across Pakistan stand united against the surge in diesel prices, warning of a nationwide shutdown as the Strait of Hormuz crisis hits home.
Rawalpindi: Transporters across Pakistan have urged the government to reverse the prices of fuel. This development occurred after the nationwide hike in fuel prices amid the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. There has been an increase of approximately 19.6% in High-Speed Diesel, which rose from Rs. 280 to Rs. 335 per liter.  This escalation has caused a substantial financial strain for the transport community as well as the general public.

According to Pakistan Today, the industry representatives have given a heads-up to take further action if their demands are not fulfilled. They say that the continuous hike will make it difficult to sustain their businesses. Following the predictable chain reaction, the fares of public transport and heavy transport vehicles were also increased. These developments will eventually lead to a rise in goods' prices and further inflation. If the government fails to intervene, it will trigger a downward spiral that the economy can't outrun.

In response, transporters have called on the government to take immediate notice of the situation and reconsider the recent increase in fuel prices to prevent further economic pressure. They warned that if the issue remains unresolved, the transport sector may be forced to adopt stronger measures, which could disrupt transportation services across the country.

Stakeholders believe that timely government intervention is necessary to stabilize fuel costs, protect transport businesses, and prevent an additional surge in inflation that would further burden the public.
