10 More Die as Flash Flood Alerts Intensify in Northern Pakistan

Flash floods continued to wreak havoc in Northern Pakistan, claiming the lives of 10 more people as heavy rains triggered widespread destruction. The latest fatalities bring the death toll to alarming levels, with residents facing growing danger as weather conditions worsen.

In areas like Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, homes were swept away, roads were blocked, and several families displaced. Emergency services struggled to reach isolated communities due to collapsed bridges and landslides. Authorities have now issued high alert warnings, urging residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate immediately and stay away from riverbanks.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned of more monsoon rains in the coming days, heightening the risk of landslides and additional flooding. Many schools remained closed, and rescue teams were dispatched across affected regions to search for missing individuals and provide relief aid to those stranded.

NDMA (National Disaster Management Authority) confirmed that at least 40 homes were partially or completely damaged. Local governments have set up temporary shelters, but many survivors say the response is too slow. The Army has also been deployed for rescue operations in particularly hard-hit districts.

The continuous downpour has also caused water levels in rivers like Swat, Indus, and Hunza to surge dangerously, prompting fears of urban flooding and flash torrents in the coming 48 hours.

The federal and provincial governments are now under pressure to accelerate disaster preparedness and relief work, especially in mountainous and low-lying regions where the infrastructure is already fragile.

As more rainfall is expected through the weekend, experts have called for improved climate resilience planning and urgent action to minimize loss of life and property in future monsoon seasons.
