Govt Grants First Blockchain HPC License to Higgs
Pakistan issues its first blockchain-based HPC license to Higgs Computing Limited, marking a major milestone in digital transformation and tech investment.

In a landmark development for Pakistan’s digital economy, the federal government has issued the country’s first-ever license for Blockchain-based High Performance Computing (HPC) to Higgs Computing Limited, marking a significant step towards technological advancement and digital transformation.
The license was granted by the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA), a government-led regulatory body focused on promoting innovation and tech-driven growth. The move has been backed by key institutions, including the Ministry of IT and Telecom and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Officials say the HPC facility will integrate Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Big Data technologies to build a secure and efficient computing infrastructure. The project is projected to generate $1.5 to $2 million in annual foreign exchange, attracting global investors and contributing to the country’s economic diversification efforts.
The data center will initially operate using 7 megawatts of electricity, offering a novel approach to utilizing Pakistan’s surplus power capacity. Authorities believe the deployment of Blockchain in HPC operations will significantly enhance transparency and data security in digital processes.
"This is a revolutionary initiative that positions Pakistan as a serious contender in the global tech industry," said a senior official at STZA. "It is a major milestone in our journey towards building a truly digital Pakistan."
The government sees this licensing initiative as a critical step in creating a sustainable, innovation-led economic framework and attracting high-value technology investments into the country.
Industry experts have lauded the development, stating that such initiatives are vital for enabling secure, high-speed computing in various sectors including finance, health, logistics, and government services.
