Pakistan Railways Makes Profit After Years of Heavy Losses
Pakistan Railways posts Rs 410m profit in FY 2023–24 after years of losses, driven by reforms, better services, and higher passenger & freight revenue.

In a historic turnaround, Pakistan Railways has finally posted a profit after suffering years of heavy losses. Official figures show that in FY 2023–24, the organization earned Rs 88.79 billion in revenue, surpassing expenses of Rs 88.38 billion, resulting in a profit of Rs 410 million.
Just a year earlier, in FY 2022–23, the department faced a loss of Rs 8.46 billion, highlighting the scale of the recovery. The revival comes after strategic reforms, including outsourcing key services, improving passenger facilities, expanding freight operations, and enhancing operational efficiency.
Officials believe this is only the beginning, as Pakistan Railways aims to further boost profitability and modernize its services to reclaim its position as the country’s transport backbone.
