LHC Dismisses Petition on Private School Fee Hike

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed a petition challenging a recent increase in private school fees in Lahore. The petition, filed by Muhammad Ayub and others, claimed that some private schools had raised their fees by up to 42%, far exceeding the legally allowed 5% annual limit.

During the hearing, the petitioners’ lawyer argued that such a steep hike was illegal and burdensome for parents. Justice Khalid Ishaq inquired about the authority responsible for regulating school fees, to which it was clarified that the matter falls under the District Registration Authority (DRA), headed by the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore.

Rather than ruling on the increase directly, the court directed the DRA to resolve the complaint within 21 days. The petitioners hope the authority will take strict action against schools found in violation of the law.

The case has sparked public debate on the rising cost of education and the need for stricter enforcement of fee regulations to protect parents from sudden financial strain.
