ISLAMABAD -- Former Prime Minister Imran Khan may have access to the latest headlines, but life inside Adiala Jail is far from comfortable, according to religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza. Speaking to media after securing bail in a high-profile blasphemy case, Mirza offered a rare glimpse into Khan’s daily routine and state of mind behind bars.

Mirza, who was jailed earlier and released in December 2025, said Khan has access to two newspapers and an LED television, keeping him updated on national and international news. Yet, he remains “very frustrated,” a sentiment Mirza described as unsurprising given that the PTI chairman has spent nearly two years in detention.

According to Mirza, Khan occupies five barracks for personal use, while a sixth is reserved for his attendant. He leaves his barracks only twice a day, at 9 a.m. for breakfast and 3 p.m. for lunch, both prepared with desi ghee, filling the corridors with its aroma. The former prime minister reportedly expresses his anger loudly when provoked, Mirza added.

The revelations come amid growing concern over the conditions of Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, who have been kept in what PTI describes as “solitary confinement.” The party recently petitioned the Senate for a committee to investigate what it calls violations of the former prime minister’s fundamental rights. “The conditions under which he is being held raise serious constitutional, legal, and humanitarian concerns,” PTI said in a letter, naming Senators Ali Zafar, Hamid Khan, Azam Swati, and Mishal Azam to the proposed review panel.

While Khan’s facilities are modest compared to a palace, Mirza emphasized that they are better than those of regular inmates, highlighting the delicate balance authorities maintain in providing access without breaching prison norms.

The disclosures shed new light on the former cricket star-turned-politician’s current ordeal, illustrating a mix of routine, restriction, and ongoing frustration that continues to shape his daily life in Pakistan’s high-security facility.
