Karachi Traffic Police Introduces Easy Way to Check E-Challans

Karachi Traffic Police launches the Tracks Citizen App to simplify e-challan checks, offering online fine tracking, transparency, and digital payments.

Karachi Traffic Police Introduces Easy Way to Check E-Challans

The Karachi Traffic Police has rolled out a major update in its traffic monitoring and fine management system, making it easier for citizens to check and pay their e-challans instantly. The new initiative, led by the Sindh Police’s Traffic Department, allows vehicle owners to track their fines through a mobile app and online platform  bringing greater transparency, convenience, and accountability to the city’s traffic operations.

The latest feature is part of the ‘Tracks Citizen App’, now available on Android and iOS. Once users register their CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card), the app automatically shows all vehicles registered under their name along with any pending or past e-challans. Users can view complete details of each violation, including date, time, location, and type of offence, all backed by digital evidence captured through surveillance cameras.

Digital Enforcement for Transparency

The e-challan system, already operational in several major intersections of Karachi, uses high-tech CCTV cameras and automated license plate recognition to detect traffic violations. When a driver breaks a rule such as jumping a red light, overspeeding, or riding without a helmet he system automatically generates a challan based on the vehicle’s registration details.

Officials say this approach eliminates the need for human interaction, significantly reducing corruption and ensuring that penalties are issued fairly and transparently. The fines are uploaded directly to the app and official website, allowing citizens to verify their status in real time.

Within the first few hours of launch, the system generated thousands of e-challans across the city. Violations like not wearing seat belts, signal jumping, and riding without helmets were among the most common.

How to Check and Pay E-Challans

Citizens can check their challans using three official methods:

  1. Mobile App: Download the “Tracks Citizen” app from Google Play or Apple Store, register using your CNIC, and view all pending fines linked to your vehicles.

  2. Online Portal: Visit the Karachi Traffic Police website and enter your vehicle’s registration number or CNIC.

  3. In-person: Those who prefer manual verification can visit designated Traffic Police offices across Karachi.

Payment options include online banking, Easypaisa, JazzCash, and physical submission at designated banks.

Public Response and Safety Impact

Since the launch, Karachi residents have welcomed the move, calling it a long-awaited step toward modernizing the city’s traffic system. The convenience of digital verification and payment means fewer visits to traffic offices and less confusion over outstanding fines.

Traffic officials believe the system will help encourage better compliance with road safety rules and reduce reckless driving. With transparent enforcement and immediate visibility of penalties, drivers are more likely to follow regulations.

A senior official from the Traffic Police shared that the system’s data will also be used to identify high-risk intersections and recurring violations, helping authorities plan future safety interventions more effectively.

Warning About Fake Messages

Authorities have also issued a warning to citizens about fake SMS and scam messages pretending to be from the Karachi Traffic Police. These fraudulent texts often claim that a fine has been issued and ask users to make payments through unofficial links. The department clarified that official notifications are only sent via the Tracks Citizen App and the official police website.

Citizens are advised not to click on unknown links or share personal information, and to verify all challan details only through authorized channels.

A Step Toward Smart Traffic Management

The introduction of this digital e-challan system is part of Karachi’s broader goal to adopt smart city technologies. The initiative combines automation, surveillance, and digital access to make traffic monitoring more efficient and citizen-friendly.

With over three million vehicles registered in the metropolis, managing traffic violations manually had become increasingly difficult. By integrating digital tools, the Karachi Traffic Police is taking a firm step toward a safer, more accountable urban traffic environment.

For Karachi’s drivers, the message is simple  follow the rules, drive safely, and stay informed through the official Tracks Citizen app.
