Dates Announced for Lok Mela 2025 in Islamabad

The National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) has announced the dates for Lok Mela 2025, one of Pakistan’s most vibrant cultural festivals, set to be held in Islamabad later this year.

This annual celebration of heritage and craftsmanship will showcase cultural pavilions from all provinces and regions, including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Each pavilion will highlight the region’s traditional crafts, folk performances, music, and cuisines, offering visitors a glimpse into Pakistan’s diverse cultural identity.

Adding to the excitement, an international pavilion will make a grand return this year, featuring participants from 12 foreign countries  double the number from last year.

Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khichi, said the increasing international participation underscores growing global appreciation for Pakistan’s cultural richness. “The presence of more foreign participants this year shows how our traditions continue to inspire and attract audiences around the world,” he stated.

The festival will feature folk music performances, storytelling sessions, and hands-on craft workshops, allowing visitors to engage directly with artisans and performers. Traditional food stalls serving regional delicacies from across Pakistan will also be a major attraction.

According to Lok Virsa officials, comprehensive arrangements have been made for security, crowd management, and family-friendly facilities to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

Since its inception in 1981, Lok Mela has served as a vibrant platform to celebrate Pakistan’s folk heritage and unity in diversity, promoting cultural harmony and preserving traditional art forms. This year’s edition is expected to draw large crowds, including foreign tourists and local culture enthusiasts, eager to celebrate the colors, sounds, and flavors of Pakistan.
