Punjab Govt to Establish 978 Acre Natural Forest in Lahore

The Punjab government has launched a large-scale tree-planting initiative to tackle Lahore’s growing air pollution and persistent smog problem. Aiming to establish a 978-acre natural forest across the city, the project will provide cleaner air and fresh oxygen for residents. As part of this effort, a green belt is being developed along the River Ravi, where 634,000 trees will be planted. So far, 144 acres have been covered, with 105,000 trees already in place. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb highlighted that improving Lahore’s air quality remains a top government priority, describing the initiative as a milestone in reducing smog and ensuring a healthier environment. Launched by the Punjab Department of Forests and the Lahore Development Authority (RODA), the project also encourages public participation, urging citizens to contribute to making Lahore a cleaner and greener city.
