PM Shehbaz Urges Afghanistan to Take Firm Action Against TTP for Regional Stability

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the Afghan interim government to take decisive measures against the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), warning that peace in the region will remain fragile unless Kabul acts to curb cross-border terrorism.

During a press briefing in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said Pakistan had long shown patience despite continued attacks on its soil originating from across the border. “We have consistently extended the hand of friendship to Afghanistan,” he stated, “but our goodwill must be matched with action. No country can tolerate militants using neighboring territory to harm its citizens.”

Shehbaz Sharif noted that Pakistan’s stance on peace has always been clear  security and cooperation must go hand in hand. He stressed that Pakistan will continue to support a peaceful Afghanistan but added that the ongoing militant activities have made it difficult to sustain mutual trust.

“Afghanistan must ensure that its soil is not used as a launching pad for violence,” the Prime Minister asserted. “The TTP’s presence is not only a threat to Pakistan but also to Afghanistan’s own stability. The world is watching how seriously Kabul fulfills its responsibility.”

Sources within the security establishment revealed that Pakistan has faced a rise in terrorist incidents over recent months, with evidence suggesting that several attacks were planned from across the border. Pakistani officials believe that joint intelligence sharing, border management, and counterterrorism coordination are the only ways to break the cycle of violence.

In his remarks, PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, saying that the country’s sacrifices in the fight against terrorism should not be overlooked. “Thousands of our soldiers and civilians have laid down their lives for peace. We will never allow anyone to reverse the hard-earned stability achieved through these sacrifices,” he said.

He further emphasized that Pakistan’s expectations from Afghanistan are rooted in mutual respect, not confrontation. “We are neighbors linked by faith, culture, and geography. Our futures are connected and so is our peace. Let us protect it together,” he concluded.

The Prime Minister’s statement comes amid growing international concern over the resurgence of militancy in border regions, where the TTP has reportedly regrouped. Observers say Pakistan’s latest call could be a turning point if both nations choose cooperation over confrontation to restore lasting peace in South Asia
