PTCL Lands High-Speed Africa 1 Submarine Cable in Karachi
PTCL has successfully landed the Africa-1 submarine cable in Karachi, marking a major step in enhancing Pakistan’s digital connectivity.
In a landmark achievement for Pakistan’s digital future, Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has successfully landed the Africa-1 Submarine Cable in Karachi, marking a major step toward boosting the country’s internet capacity and global connectivity.
The Africa-1 cable, with a staggering capacity of 96 terabits per second, is designed to connect Pakistan with several key regions — including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Egypt, and France. This milestone will significantly enhance internet speeds, reduce latency, and narrow Pakistan’s digital divide.
Advancing Pakistan’s Digital Vision 2030
The project is fully aligned with Pakistan’s Digital Vision 2030, which aims to expand broadband access, promote digital inclusion, and strengthen the nation’s tech-driven economy.
By joining this international consortium, PTCL has reaffirmed its commitment to building world-class digital infrastructure that supports future technologies such as 5G, AI-based services, and cloud computing.
Second Major Cable in Less Than a Year
Notably, Africa-1 is the second major submarine cable to reach Pakistan within a year, following the successful landing of Africa-2 in December 2024. Together, these systems are expected to create a more resilient internet backbone, reducing Pakistan’s reliance on older routes and improving international bandwidth availability.
A Step Toward a Connected Future
Industry experts believe this development will position Pakistan as a key regional hub for digital connectivity, opening doors for data centers, international investments, and cross-border tech collaboration.
As global demand for high-speed internet continues to grow, the Africa-1 cable stands as a symbol of Pakistan’s progress toward a smarter, faster, and more connected future.
