Punjab Food Authority Seals Fake Cold Drink Factory in Lahore
Punjab Food Authority seals a fake cold drink factory in Lahore for producing harmful beverages using unapproved ingredients and unsafe conditions.
The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has sealed a fake cold drink factory operating on Lahore–Sheikhupura Road for producing counterfeit beverages under the names of popular brands. The raid was carried out under the supervision of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javed after a tip-off about large-scale fake drink production.
During the operation, the PFA team discovered unhygienic working conditions and seized thousands of litres of harmful beverages that were being prepared for distribution in the local market. According to officials, the factory was using unapproved chemicals, contaminated water, and artificial flavours to create drinks that looked like well-known soft drink brands.
What the PFA Found
Authorities confiscated over 3,600 litres of fake beverages, 15,000 bottle caps, 80 litres of flavouring syrup, and several filling and packaging machines. They also found empty branded bottles, drums, and labels used to deceive customers. All equipment was taken into custody, and an FIR has been registered against the factory owner and staff.
Health Risk and Warning
The PFA warned that such fake beverages pose serious health risks, including kidney and stomach damage, due to the use of unsafe ingredients. Officials said consuming these counterfeit drinks can cause food poisoning and long-term health problems.
Zero-Tolerance Policy
Director General Asim Javed said the PFA has a zero-tolerance policy against food adulteration and illegal manufacturing. He vowed that strict action will continue against those endangering public health for profit. The authority also urged citizens to report any suspicious food businesses through the PFA helpline 1223.
In Summary
The Punjab Food Authority’s swift action prevented the supply of thousands of litres of fake cold drinks in Lahore. This operation highlights the authority’s ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and protect consumers from harmful and counterfeit products.
