Building Falls Down in Karachi, At Least Seven People Dead
Five-story building collapse in Karachi, Pakistan, kills at least seven people. Rescue efforts ongoing for trapped survivors.

A tall house in a busy part of Karachi called Lyari fell down this morning. At least seven people have died, and many others are hurt. Rescuers are working hard to pull people out of the broken building.
The five-story building, which had many families living in it, collapsed around 10:10 AM. People think about 100 people might have been inside when it happened.
Karachi's Mayor, Murtaza Wahab, said seven people have died and eight people have been saved so far. Doctors at the main hospital in Karachi have received five bodies and seven injured people. The dead include three men and two women. Those who are hurt are different ages, from a teenager to someone in their 50s.
People who saw it happen and rescue workers said it was hard to get big machines into the narrow streets. Videos showed rescue workers and local people trying to move the broken pieces to find those stuck underneath. Buildings nearby were emptied to be safe because they were also damaged.
The government group in charge of buildings said the fallen building was about 30 years old and was already marked as unsafe. They said they told people to leave, but the people living there say they never got any warnings. The building group also said there are almost 600 other unsafe buildings in Karachi.
Sindh's top official, Murad Ali Shah, has asked for quick rescue work and help for the injured. He also wants a full report on why the building fell and details about other old buildings in Karachi. A special group will look into the accident and find any officials who were careless within three days. The local government boss has ordered that the building officials responsible be immediately suspended from their jobs.
Pakistan's Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, said he was very sad about the deaths. He sent his thoughts to the families who lost loved ones and asked for all possible medical help for the injured.
This accident shows that rules for building safely are not always followed, and there are many old and illegal buildings in Karachi, a huge city. Building collapses keep happening, which is a big worry. Rescuers will keep working all night, hoping to find more people alive.
