The Pakistan government has extended the EOI deadline for PIA privatization to June 19, 2025. Learn about the process, deadline, and how to apply

Govt Extends EOI Deadline for PIA Privatization to June 19, 2025

The federal government has extended the deadline to submit Expressions of Interest (EOIs) for the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The new last date to apply is now June 19, 2025, instead of the earlier deadline of June 3. This gives more time to local and international investors interested in buying shares in PIA.

According to the official announcement, all other terms and conditions will stay the same. Only the deadline has been changed.

“The deadline for submission of Expressions of Interest and Statements of Qualification for the ‘Divestment of Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited through privatization’ has been extended till 16:00 hours on Thursday, 19th June, 2025,” the advertisement said.

What is PIACL?

Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) is the national airline of Pakistan. It is a public limited company. The Government of Pakistan owns about 96% of its shares through the PIA Holding Company Limited.

Why This Matters

This move is part of the government’s larger plan to privatize PIA and improve its financial health. The extension gives more time to investors to prepare and submit their EOIs, making the process more competitive and transparent.

New Deadline for PIA EOI Submission

The updated deadline is:

  • New Deadline: June 19, 2025, by 4:00 PM (Pakistan Standard Time)

  • Old Deadline: June 3, 2025

  • No other changes to terms and conditions

This gives more time to potential investors to submit their EOIs for PIA privatization, which is seen as a big step in the government's economic reform agenda.

Why is the Government Privatizing PIA?

  • PIA has been facing financial losses for years.

  • Privatization is aimed at improving service quality, financial performance, and operational efficiency.

  • The move opens up investment opportunities in Pakistan’s aviation sector.

The Pakistan government privatizing PIA in 2025 signals its commitment to restructuring state-owned enterprises.
