Govt May Lift Ban on New Domestic Gas Connections
The government is likely to lift the ban on new domestic gas connections in Pakistan. Over 3.5 million families may finally get pipeline gas after years of waiting.

The government of Pakistan is planning to lift the ban on new domestic gas connections. This was shared by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, who said that the matter has already been discussed with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and a final decision is expected soon.
The ban on gas connections was first introduced in December 2021 and was enforced from March 2022 due to a shortage of pipeline gas. As a result, many households had to rely on LPG cylinders, which are both expensive and unsafe.
Now, the government is considering removing the ban because of the availability of surplus imported LNG. This step could also help reduce pressure on foreign exchange reserves.
There are around 3.5 million applications for new gas connections currently pending with Sui Northern and Sui Southern gas companies. Lifting the ban would bring relief to millions of families across Pakistan who have been waiting for a regular gas supply.
