Pakistan has taken a big step in digital growth, with mobile subscriptions now over 200 million. According to sources, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif will officially announce this achievement during a national event on World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. The event is being organized by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and updated numbers will also be shared on the PTA’s platform.
The celebration was planned for today, and invitations were sent to important guests and officials. But it was delayed because the Prime Minister was not available. Now, the event is expected to take place on May 16 or 17, 2025, with the Prime Minister leading it.
As part of the celebrations, PTA is working with mobile network companies and phone makers to launch special offers for the public. On the event day, mobile companies will give free data and call bundles to users across the country. This is to thank people for their support and to promote digital access for everyone.
PTA has also asked mobile phone makers to give 10 to 15 mid-range smartphones for a lucky draw at the event. This is a way to show the industry's support for digital inclusion and to help connect people in areas with limited access.
