Suicide Blast at Marriage Ceremony in Dera Ismail Khan Kills 27
At least 27 people, including peace committee members and former militants, were killed in a suicide blast at a marriage ceremony in Dera Ismail Khan. Investigation underway.
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A devastating suicide attack at a marriage ceremony near Qureshi Morr on Friday night has claimed the lives of at least 27 people and left several others injured. The victims reportedly included peace committee members, former militants, and other local figures.
According to Dera Ismail Khan District Police Officer (DPO) Sajjad Ahmed Sahibzada, the explosion occurred while celebrations were underway. Guests were dancing and enjoying the event when the attacker struck.
The powerful blast caused the roof of the hall to collapse, trapping many under the debris and making rescue operations extremely difficult.
“This was a suicide blast,” DPO Sahibzada confirmed. “An emergency has been imposed at the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment of the injured.”
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Ahmed Faizi said that rescue teams immediately recovered the bodies and shifted the injured to the hospital. Multiple ambulances, fire, and disaster response units were deployed to the scene.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched a full-scale investigation. Early reports indicate that prominent peace committee leaders and former militants were among the dead.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack in the strongest terms and demanded a report from the provincial inspector general of police. He directed law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
“The provincial government shares the grief of the families of the martyrs and will provide all possible assistance,” he said.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also expressed sorrow and instructed authorities to provide immediate and full medical care to the injured.
The attack follows a series of targeted assaults on peace committee members and former militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier this month, four peace committee members were killed in Bannu, and in November 2025, seven people were killed when a peace committee office in Bannu was attacked.
Investigations are ongoing.
