Dubai Deports Man After Conviction for Stealing Mobile Phone

A Dubai court has sentenced an Asian man to one month in prison, imposed a fine equal to the value of the stolen phone, and ordered his deportation after finding him guilty of theft and attempted theft.

The case stemmed from the theft of a mobile phone worth AED 320 (approximately Rs. 25,000) from an electronics store earlier this year. According to court documents, the man who wore a face mask to conceal his identity entered the shop, spotted a display phone left unsecured, and slipped it into his pocket before leaving the store unnoticed.

Investigators said the suspect later sold the stolen device to an unidentified buyer for the same amount.

Attempted Repeat Theft Leads to Arrest

Roughly a month after the initial theft, the man returned to the same store, again wearing a mask, apparently planning to steal another device.

However, this time, store employees recognized his behavior and immediately grew suspicious. They confronted and detained him before he could take any item, later handing him over to the police.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the earlier theft, though he claimed he could not identify the individual who purchased the stolen phone.

Court Verdict and Sentence

The man was subsequently referred to the Public Prosecution and charged with theft and attempted theft.
Following a brief trial, the Misdemeanors Court found him guilty and handed down a one-month jail sentence, a fine equivalent to the stolen phone’s value, and ordered his deportation after serving the prison term.

The judgment reflects Dubai’s zero-tolerance stance on theft and property-related crimes, even for low-value items, underscoring the emirate’s commitment to maintaining public security and strict legal enforcement.
