ISLAMABAD A deadly gas cylinder explosion ripped through a residential house in Islamabad’s G-7/2 sector early Sunday morning, killing eight people, including a bride and groom, and injuring more than a dozen others, officials confirmed.

The blast happened hours after a wedding ceremony, when family members and guests were inside the house. According to police and rescue officials, the explosion was so powerful that it caused parts of the house to collapse and damaged at least four nearby homes.

Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene after receiving distress calls. Emergency workers used heavy tools and sniffer dogs to search through the debris. All trapped victims were later pulled out.

According to Tribune, six bodies and 11 injured people were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where an emergency was declared. Two more bodies and one injured person were taken to Capital Hospital, raising the death toll to eight.

Hospital officials said several injured victims suffered serious burns and fractures. Some remain in critical condition. Children were also among those hurt in the blast.

Police said the victims included the newlywed couple, the groom’s mother, and other close relatives. What was meant to be a happy family gathering turned into a scene of grief and chaos within moments.

Initial findings suggest the explosion was caused by a gas cylinder leak, though officials said a full investigation is under way to determine the exact cause. Gas cylinder accidents are common in Pakistan, especially in areas where piped gas supply is limited and safety checks are often ignored.

According to Dawn, forensic teams have secured the site and are collecting evidence. The area remains sealed as investigators assess structural damage and safety risks.

Top leaders expressed grief over the tragedy. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered condolences to the families and directed authorities to provide the best medical care to the injured.

Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani called the incident “deeply painful” and urged stronger safety measures to prevent such accidents.

Officials have advised citizens to regularly inspect gas cylinders and follow safety rules to avoid similar disasters.
