L.A. Red Flag Warnings Expired but Still Dangerous
Steadily, firefighters in Los Angeles are overcoming the deadly wildfires that have made havoc, destroying thousands of houses and other structures. After the expiration of "Red Flag" warnings, however, the public was still encouraged to be careful because the returning conditions are very favorable for wildfires.
Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley warned that the fires were far from being over for the city. There is so much unburned, dry vegetation in the area that, when the ferocious winds return next week, it could re-ignite existing hotspots and create new fire danger conditions.
“Flying embers from a wildfire can destroy homes over a mile away,”
Known for their intensity and dryness in a repeatable pattern, the Santa Ana Winds pose yet another recurring problem during wildfire season. These winds might become coupled, helping flames spread further, even carrying embers over considerable distances, putting property and lives at very high risk. It is even more severe, as low humidity increases the rapid account of fire spreading in an unpredictable manner.
Well, even if the fires have been largely brought under control, things are still quite tenuous there. Firefighters are still putting out the remaining hotspots and patrolling fires in potential areas.
