Pakistan’s IT Minister Shaza Fatima revealed the arrival of the world’s largest submarine cable, part of the Africa-2 Cable Project, designed to tackle the country’s long-standing internet
connectivity challenges. Spanning 45,000 kilometers and connecting 33 countries through 46 landing stations, the cable is set to enhance mobile broadband. Speaking in the Senate, Fatima outlined the government’s initiatives to boost internet capacity and collaborate with telecom operators to address disruptions. With one of the existing cables nearing the end of its lifespan, the new addition is expected to significantly improve connectivity. The government’s focus on doubling frequency capacity over the past two years signals progress in bridging the digital divide.
