The long-awaited metro bus service connecting Rawalpindi and Islamabad has been partially restored, offering some relief to daily commuters who depend on the twin cities’ busiest public transport network.

According to officials, operations have resumed from Saddar Station to Kashmir Highway, marking the first phase of restoration. However, the route between Faiz Ahmed Faiz Station and the Pak Secretariat remains temporarily suspended due to maintenance work.

 Gradual Restoration Plan Announced

Authorities confirmed that the second phase of the operation will restore the remaining section — from Faiz Ahmed Faiz Station to Pak Secretariat — once essential track and system maintenance is completed.

Commuters have been advised to plan their travel accordingly and stay updated through official metro information channels.

Linked Recovery of Internet and Transport Services

The resumption of metro operations coincides with the restoration of mobile internet services across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Connectivity had been disrupted for two days due to security restrictions, but both services are now gradually returning to normal.

On October 10, the Punjab government imposed Section 144 across the province for ten days amid security concerns, resulting in temporary disruptions in several civic services.

 Why It Matters for Residents

The metro bus remains a lifeline for thousands of daily travelers commuting between the two cities for work, education, and trade. The phased restoration will ease travel challenges, especially for low-income workers who rely heavily on affordable public transport.

 What Happens Next

Officials have not shared an exact date for full service restoration, but maintenance crews are reportedly working around the clock to reopen the remaining section soon. Once completed, normal operations are expected to resume before the end of October 2025.
