New All-Electric Ferries to Connect Spain and Morocco in just 40 Minutes

Spanish company Baleària is launching two high-speed, all-electric ferries to connect Tarifa, Spain, and Tangier, Morocco. These eco-friendly vessels will travel 18 miles (30 km) using zero-emission electric power, providing a sustainable link between Europe and Africa. Each ferry features a 16 MW electric system with four battery units (11,500 kW each) that recharge in just 40 minutes at the port. They can carry 804 passengers, 225 vehicles, and reach speeds of 26 knots. The ferries are being built at Spain’s Armon shipyard and will be completed in about two and a half years.
