Aga Khan IV Passes Away at 88 in Lisbon

His Highness Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, has passed away in Lisbon, Portugal, at the age of 88, surrounded by his family. The Aga Khan Development Network and the Ismaili community confirmed his passing, though no cause has been stated. Prince Karim Aga Khan became the spiritual leader of around 15 million Ismaili Muslims worldwide at the age of 20 while studying at Harvard. Throughout his life, he dedicated his wealth and influence to philanthropic efforts, establishing homes, hospitals, and schools in developing countries. His successor, the 50th Imam, has been named in his will, which will be read in Lisbon in the presence of his family and religious leaders before being made public.
