Pakistan Offers to Host US-Iran Peace Talks
PM Shehbaz Sharif says Islamabad is ready and honoured to facilitate meaningful dialogue to end the ongoing US-Iran war.
March 25, 2026 – Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted on X in the evening of March 24, offering to host talks between the United States and Iran. He wrote that Pakistan “stands ready and honoured to be the host to facilitate meaningful and conclusive talks for a comprehensive settlement of the ongoing conflict,” as long as both sides agree. The post came just a day after President Trump announced a five-day pause on strikes against Iran’s power plants.
In his message, Sharif said Pakistan fully supports all efforts to pursue dialogue and bring peace and stability to the region. He tagged President Trump, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Within hours, Trump reposted a screenshot of Sharif’s statement on his Truth Social account, which added fuel to speculation that serious back-channel efforts are underway. Pakistan’s army chief has also been in touch with Trump recently, and Sharif himself spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Monday, according to The Express Tribune.
Pakistan has long maintained close ties with both Iran and the United States, even though the two are currently at war. Islamabad has been quietly pushing for de-escalation since the conflict started on February 28. With the Strait of Hormuz largely blocked and global oil prices jumping, many countries are looking for any way to cool things down. Pakistan sees itself in a good position because it shares a border with Iran and has working relations with the current US administration.
Whether this offer actually leads anywhere is still unclear. Iran has so far denied any direct talks with the Americans, and no one has confirmed if they will accept Pakistan as a host. But if both sides say yes, Islamabad could become the venue for high-level meetings as early as this week. For now, the bombs have not stopped completely, but Sharif’s public move has at least opened another door for diplomacy. Everyone will be watching closely to see if this small step turns into something bigger or just fades away like previous efforts.
