PTI Ends SC Sit-In After Concession on Imran Khan’s Medical Report

ISLAMABAD: After a tense, day-long sit-in outside the Supreme Court on Friday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called off its protest following assurances that the family of jailed party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan will be provided his medical report, according to Dawn.

The protest, which drew PTI leaders, lawmakers and workers to the apex court’s steps in Islamabad, was aimed at pressing the government and judiciary for transparency about Imran Khan’s health and access to him for meetings with family and personal doctors.

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said after a 30-minute meeting with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi that the party had secured a commitment that Khan’s medical report, detailing his recent treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), would be handed to him in a sealed envelope and a copy given to his sisters.

“We have been here all day demanding accountability and the right to know about Imran Khan’s condition,” Raja told reporters outside the Supreme Court, adding that while the concession was a step forward, the outcome was “not entirely satisfactory.”

The sit-in followed days of mounting concern inside the PTI over reports that Khan was taken to PIMS for a medical procedure, which the Information Ministry later confirmed was an eye-related treatment, a move that triggered party outrage because the family and lawyers were not informed in advance.

Senior party figures, including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, joined the sit-in, decrying what they called the government’s opacity on Khan’s health and restrictions on access to him in Adiala Jail.

Afridi said the party had also sought permission for Khan’s personal doctors to examine him in jail, a request they claim was refused, a point Afridi called “unacceptable” given the party’s concerns over his well-being.

With assurances on the report secured, PTI leaders ended the protest and announced plans to meet later with the party’s political committee and allied groups to decide next steps, including broader action ahead of a nationwide rally scheduled for February 8, The Express Tribune reported.

Raja stressed that the party’s struggle over Khan’s access, including meetings with family and trusted physicians, would continue, framing the issue as both a constitutional and moral fight.
