In a remarkable step toward digital innovation and citizen convenience, the Punjab government has extended its Smart Driving License Centers initiative to yet another district. The move is aimed at modernizing public services, reducing hassle for drivers, and eliminating long queues and outdated processes.

Smart Driving License Centers are modern, technology-enabled facilities designed to streamline the process of issuing, renewing, and managing driving licenses. These centers:

  • Use digital systems to speed up the process

  • Offer automated testing facilities for theoretical and practical exams

  • They are open 24/7 in some districts (depending on location)

  • Provide a one-window operation for multiple services

  • Ensure real-time data entry and verification

These centers have revolutionized how people apply for or renew driving licenses, making it faster, more transparent, and hassle-free.

According to the latest update from Punjab’s traffic authorities, a new district has officially launched its Smart Driving License Center, joining the growing list of tech-enabled facilities across the province.

Although the name of the new district has not been officially disclosed in some press statements, sources confirm that it lies in South Punjab, a region previously underserved in terms of digital infrastructure.

Speaking about the development, a senior official from the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) stated:

“Our goal is to make driving license issuance as simple and efficient as possible. With the launch of Smart License Centers in more districts, we're bridging the gap between technology and public service.”

Another traffic department officer added:

“These centers will help eliminate corruption, reduce middlemen, and provide a dignified experience to every citizen seeking a driving license.”

Whether you’re a new driver or renewing an old license, these centers provide a range of services under one roof:

  • Issuance of a learner’s permit

  • Renewal of expired licenses

  • Upgradation of license categories (e.g., from car to LTV/HTV)

  • International driving permits

  • Duplicate license in case of loss or damage

  • Book Appointment Online
Visit the Punjab Traffic Police or PSCA website and schedule your visit to a nearby Smart Center.

  • Bring Required Documents
Carry CNIC, medical certificate (for learners), and two passport-size photos.

  • Biometric & Photo Capture
Your thumbprint and photo will be taken digitally on arrival.

  • Take the Test
If applying for a learner's or permanent license, you’ll take a computer-based theory test.

  • Instant Results
Pass or fail results are shared on the spot. In case of failure, you can retake after a short gap.

  • License Issued
Once approved, your smart driving license will be printed and delivered promptly.

The Punjab government plans to:

  • Extend smart license centers to every tehsil and town

  • Introduce AI-powered road safety modules in driving tests

  • Launch mobile smart vans for remote areas

  • Integrate with NADRA and Vehicle Registration databases for seamless data access

The launch of Smart Driving License Centers in another district marks a positive shift in governance, accessibility, and public service delivery.

Punjab is once again leading the way in digital transformation, bringing ease to citizens while boosting efficiency in the government machinery.
