KARACHI: The bodies of three women — a mother, her daughter and daughter-in-law were discovered inside a second-floor flat in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s Haramein Royal Residency on Sunday evening, police confirmed. (The Express Tribune)

Police said the deceased are 52-year-old Samina, her 19-year-old daughter Samreen, and 22-year-old Maha. A 30-year-old male relative, identified as Yaseen, was found unconscious and rushed to hospital. The family’s father was present, though police described his mental state as unstable. (Dawn)

When officers arrived, they discovered the women laid out on separate beds. There were no visible signs of violence — no strangulation marks, no external injuries, and no signs of forced entry. Investigators also said a gas leak was ruled out.

Initial speculation suggested poisoning or toxic ingestion as a possible cause, but authorities stressed that nothing conclusive has been found so far. “The exact cause of death cannot be determined at this stage and will only be confirmed after the post-mortem reports are received,” said SSP East Zubair Nazir Sheikh.

The flat’s management reportedly restricted media access to the building after the tragedy. Meanwhile, investigators have collected evidence from the scene and detained the patriarch of the household for questioning. Police are awaiting Yaseen’s recovery so his statement can be recorded.

Officials noted that the family had relocated to Gulshan-e-Iqbal from another Karachi neighbourhood a few months ago, though they did not elaborate on whether that move bears any relation to the case.

With no definitive cause of death as yet, the city police launched a full-scale inquiry. Autopsy reports will likely be decisive in determining whether foul play, poisoning, or some other tragic factor is responsible for the loss of three lives.
