HYDERABAD - Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Wednesday accused unnamed “forces” of trying to take away Sindh’s powers and move the province’s resources to Islamabad, saying this was being justified by blaming the provincial government.

Speaking at the opening of the first phase of the Tharparkar Institute of Engineering, Science and Technology, Bilawal said, “Efforts are made, a campaign is run to assassinate the character of not just Tharparkar but your entire province… Some forces want to rob your province of its rights and resources and have them transferred back to Islamabad on the pretext that the Sindh government has not done anything,” according to Dawn.

He pointed to the development in Tharparkar since 2008 as an example of what provincial governments can achieve. “You can see how Tharparkar was before the 18th Amendment, and how it is in 2026. Yes, there are problems, but the Tharparkar of 2026 is before you all,” The Tribune reported.

Bilawal also highlighted the province’s resources, especially its coal, calling it as valuable as Saudi Arabia’s oil, and criticized past federal interference that blocked Sindh from using them. He said energy from Tharparkar now goes to the national grid, helping industries across Pakistan.

He said PPP’s work in education and health shows the province’s progress. The new institute, he added, will become a full university by the end of the provincial government’s term. He also mentioned new universities and a health network built in Sindh since 2008 as proof of progress under PPP.

Bilawal wrapped up by linking Tharparkar’s development to the country’s growth. “Tharparkar’s progress is essential for Pakistan’s progress, just as the progress of all four provinces is essential for the entire country,” he said.
