Forensic Report Shows KP CM, Ex-Ministers in May 9 Radio Pakistan Videos
KP CM Sohail Afridi and ex-ministers appear in May 9 Radio Pakistan videos, according to forensic report.
PESHAWAR - A forensic report has confirmed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and two former ministers appear in video clips linked to the May 9, 2023, unrest after ex-PM Imran Khan’s arrest, Tribune reported.
The Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) shared its findings with the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), which is handling the case over attacks on the Radio Pakistan office in Peshawar. The report said the videos were real and showed Afridi, Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Kamran Bangash, and two other PTI leaders. The clips were mostly unedited, except for combining multiple camera angles. The report did not say whether the footage directly shows the attack at Radio Pakistan.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari called the report “clear proof” of a “planned conspiracy” by PTI supporters. “All evidence, including videos and photos, will be used in court, and those involved in the violence will face justice,” she said.
PTI leaders rejected the claims. Taimur Jhagra said the videos “have nothing to do with Radio Pakistan” and accused authorities of wrongly targeting officials. The party said the footage was from separate protests following Imran Khan’s arrest.
The ATC will hear the case again on January 26. So far, 75 people, including current and former lawmakers, face multiple charges over the May 9 unrest. Legal experts say the court could allow the prosecution to add Afridi and the other leaders as accused based on the PFSA report. The Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation may also request their inclusion.
On May 9, PTI supporters attacked government offices in several cities. The forensic report adds a new layer to the ongoing investigation, raising the stakes for the next court hearing.
