Chicken Tikka Kebab is a popular South Asian dish made from boneless chicken marinated in a mixture of yogurt, spices, and herbs, then grilled or baked until tender and slightly charred. The chicken is typically served on skewers and often enjoyed with naan, rice, or a side of chutney, offering a smoky flavor with a rich, spicy kick.
Ingredients
- For the Marinade:
- 1 1/2 pounds boneless chicken (cut into cubes)
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1/2 tsp chili powder (adjust for spice level)
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1-2 tbsp vegetable oil (optional, for extra moisture)
- A pinch of saffron or yellow food coloring (optional, for color)
- For Cooking:
- Wooden or metal skewers (for grilling)
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
- Fresh cilantro (for garnish)
- Oil (for brushing or greasing)
Directions
- To prepare Chicken Tikka Kebab, first make the marinade in a bowl by mixing together yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, chili powder, salt, and oil (if used).
- Coat the chicken cubes thoroughly after adding them to the marinade.
- To give the chicken time to absorb the flavors, cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for at least half an hour, but preferably two to three hours.
- Set the oven or grill to medium-high heat.
- Thread the marinated chicken onto skewers, leaving space between each piece if using them.
- For added moisture, brush the chicken with melted butter or a little oil.
- Grill or bake the chicken for 15-20 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred on the edges.
- Once cooked, serve the kebabs hot, garnished with lemon wedges and fresh cilantro.
