The Best Family-Friendly Ramadan Activities

For Muslims, Ramadan is one of the most sacred months of the year.

The Best Family-Friendly Ramadan Activities

Muslims celebrate the revelation of the Qur'an during Ramadan and abstain from food and liquids during daylight hours to become closer to Allah and develop self-control, thankfulness, and empathy for the less fortunate. Muslims spend more time in Holy Quran reading and offering special prayers throughout Ramadan, a month of intense spiritual renewal with a greater emphasis on devotion.

The safest personal area on the planet is one's home, which is defined as the location where family members can live together in harmony. However, life, especially during Ramadan, is so fast-paced, chaotic, and busy that family communication and contact are no longer top priorities. Here are a few ways to make our whole family come together and enjoy family-friendly activities this Ramadan.

Decorate Your Home for Ramadan

Only lighting can create a distinct atmosphere in the house. Any place can be made cozier and more elegant with a simple string of lights, which also look amazing at night. Here are a few methods you could try.

We can make paper or cardboard lanterns and hang them up in your room with lights placed inside them. Lights can be wrapped or strung around any surface; this is a common technique because it's easy to use but still works well. For a more understated look, you can place them inside a jar or bottle. Even better, you may hide them behind sheer curtains to soften the harsh light and give them a more dreamy appearance. We can also engage the children in other decorations as well such as paper cutting, creating different objects out of cardboard, and decorating the walls.

Preparing Iftar With Your Loved Ones

The first and most important step in Ramadan is to plan our meals for iftar time while remembering Allah. Every action we conduct in Islam should be motivated by the desire to receive rewards from Allah. In addition to strengthening your spiritual bond, this will assist you in concentrating on the meaning and purpose of the meal.

When we start preparing for our meals, be sure that your goal is to nourish your body, mind, and soul to please Allah. You should start by making a dua to ask for His blessings. It's crucial to prepare your Iftar meals to include healthy, nourishing foods that will provide you the energy and nutrients you need to fast and feel satisfied all day. A range of food groups, including proteins, carbs, and healthy fats, should be included. Additionally, give priority to whole foods that are low in sugar, less processed, and high in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Making meals for iftar with our whole family makes it easier to finish our cooking and other preparations on time as well as it is a great way to bond with our loved ones.

Performing Deeds of Kindness and Charity

There are so many good deeds and forms of charity we can give in this Holy month. Your kindness is the way to help someone in need. The first and most simple step is to give a smile as Allah in the Quran says, “So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, and whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it.” [Az-Zalzalah – Verse 7-8]. Related to this there is a hadith, our beloved Prophet (SAW) said: “Your smiling in the face of your brother is charity.” [Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1956].

Donating is another way of charity, we can provide charity to millions of vulnerable women and children who are among the impoverished and most in-need Muslims who reside in refugee camps. We can also look for authentic charity accounts and donate to those if possible. Volunteer work can make stronger communities and improve connections. Another one of the best deeds we can perform is to share food, make food baskets and donate to those who are in need, and make iftar and suhoor-friendly food packages that fulfill the nutrition of every individual who receives it. Teaching the Holy Quran to young children can also become a good activity during Ramadan. We can also teach Quran Sharif online reading and recitation to students.

Ramadan Story Telling

Another family-friendly activity in Ramadan is telling stories and informative events to each other since it is a potent means of teaching religious and cultural information while fostering virtues like thankfulness and empathy. This can include true stories of our Prophets (RA), true Islamic events that took place in the month of Ramadan, or even imaginary stories that lead towards good morals for our youngsters to learn and understand.
