How to Stay Productive at Work While Fasting
Working can be a challenge while fasting in Ramadan as we continuously lose energy as we work if we can’t eat or drink anything.

Losing energy makes us tired and lazy affecting our productivity. It can be a challenge to stay focused on work when we are hungry or tired. While working in the holy month of Ramadan is rewarding, our bodies struggle to adjust to the new routine and we might lose motivation to work.
However, with a few behavioral changes and strategies, we can get the most out of our workday while fasting.
Here are a few tips on how you can stay energized and active while working in Ramadan;
1. Get Enough Rest and Sleep
It is essential to get at least 8 hours of sleep at night to stay energized and active during the day. People have now made it a trend and habit to sleep after suhoor. Getting only 2-3 hours of sleep before work is one of the major reasons why people feel lethargic and unmotivated even before half a day. So never rule out the importance of a good night’s sleep!
2. Manage Work Properly
Even when we are not fasting, our energy level is high in the morning and drops slowly in the afternoon so we need to schedule our work accordingly. You have to see when you feel the most refreshed.
If you feel active in the morning, schedule your most important and urgent tasks for the morning, and tasks that are non-challenging and require less energy can be taken care of in the evening. This way you can finish your important tasks when you are feeling productive. It will help you meet your deadlines efficiently.
3. Eat Energizing Food in Suhoor
You should incorporate food in sehri rich in proteins, fiber, and complex carbs to stay energized throughout the day. Food such as oatmeal, avocado, yogurt, and smoothies are healthy and keep you active during the day.
Do not skip suhoor meal as it can cause fatigue during the day. Also, avoid overeating in suhoor as it can cause bloating. Try to eat moderate portions of the food.
4. Stay Hydrated
Dehydration makes you lazy and sleepy becoming a hindrance to your productivity. Drink lots of water between Iftar and Suhoor to stay hydrated and energized.
Fresh juices and milk also prevent dehydration so try to incorporate those in your meals too.
5. Take Short Breaks
Taking short breaks during the day is necessary to recharge yourself. If after every hour, you take 5 minutes to walk or stretch your legs, it would help you relax for a while. Taking breaks to recharge is not a waste of time but rather an investment in your productivity and well-being.
6. Avoid Sugary Drinks and Caffeine
While you might be tempted to drink cold sugary drinks or a cup of hot tea or coffee after a long day of fasting, you might feel troubled sleeping. You would be sleeping late, not getting enough rest for the next day. Instead, opt for healthier options such as unsweetened juices or herbal tea after iftar.
7. Clear communication with your Manager
Even if you follow everything mentioned above, you can still feel exhausted due to work burden. It is alright to feel like that sometimes and you should communicate it with your manager or co-workers.
Fasting can take a toll on your body so it is ok to ask for a little support from your team. Your colleagues can help you with your work when you are exhausted and you can do the same for them when they are struggling. Teamwork goes a long way.
Conclusion
Staying productive while fasting can be challenging but with some physical and mental efforts, you can achieve your goals efficiently. Getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, scheduling your work appropriately, taking regular breaks, and communicating your needs can help you stay focused, and motivated and aid you in meeting your deadlines.
