In a landmark move to uplift education and digital infrastructure, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has earmarked Rs 364 billion for elementary and secondary education in its new budget for fiscal year 2025–26. Meanwhile, an additional Rs 50 billion has been allocated to higher education.

In a landmark move to uplift education and digital infrastructure, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has earmarked Rs 364 billion for elementary and secondary education in its new budget for fiscal year 2025–26. Meanwhile, an additional Rs 50 billion has been allocated to higher education. This push strengthens the province’s commitment to enhancing school facilities, deploying modern teaching methods, and bridging digital divides.

  • Total allocation for elementary & secondary education: Rs 364 billion – an 11% rise from last year’s Rs 327 billion 

  • Higher education funding increased from Rs 36 billion to Rs 50 billion

  • Approx. Rs 345 billion allocated for recurring costs (salaries, operations); Rs 19 billion for development projects 

  • 32,500 public schools to receive infrastructure upgrades, with Rs 5.9 billion dedicated to essential facilities 

  • An education emergency fund of Rs 5 billion targeting literacy improvement and re-enrollment of out-of-school children

KP is investing heavily in physical assets and upgrades:

  • 32,500 public schools will see renovated classrooms, washrooms, sports facilities, and learning materials

  • Historic heritage: Rs 855 million set aside to restore 10 historic school buildings

Teacher quality is a major focus:

  • 16,500 new teachers to be hired via ETEA recruitment 

  • 30,000 existing teachers to receive induction training; 1,300 school leaders also trained

  • Female teachers’ support: Rs 1.593 billion injected into Girls Community School payrolls

  • 830,000 children enrolled this year (515,000 boys, 315,000 girls) 

  • Second shift operation in 1,053 schools (588 boys, 465 girls), accommodating over 70,000 students 

  • 300 new primary schools and 150 school upgrades, covering primary

  • Significantly expanded access across rural areas

  • Centralized efforts to reduce gender and geographical disparities

KP invests heavily in postsecondary education:

  • Higher education funding jumps to Rs 50 billion from Rs 36 billion 

  • University grants triple to Rs 10 billion 

  • Five new colleges are under construction with a Rs 3.5 billion commitment

  • Applied sciences conversion: Rs 2.772 billion for modern technical upgradation
