Many Lives Lost as the Fire Engulfs Turkish Ski Hotel

A firestorm ravaged the Grand Kartal Hotel, a well-known ski holiday resort in Bolu, Turkey. At least 76 people died in the grande catastro-fete. The havoc happened in the wee hours of the night as the guests allegedly strangled everyone in an outlet to flee the fire disaster.

The fire might have originated at 03:27 local time or 00:27 UTC in the wooden-clad, 12-storey hotel, which was bursting at the seams with 234 guests, enjoying the peak holiday season. The number of deaths alone initially reported as 10 suddenly jumped and doubled within hours during the rescue activities. It was discovered that among the victims who had confirmed deaths were two people who jumped out from their windows in a last-ditch and desperate attempt to flee the blaze.

And so it remained for firefighters, braving each hour through the raging inferno that finally seemed to have met its match after over 12 hours of extensive effort.

Most of the people's deaths recorded are tourists who traveled to enjoy the winter tourist offerings of the ski resort. Some other individuals were injured, a few seriously, and have since been hospitalized.

The design of the Grand Kartal Hotel stands out for its prominent wooden cladding and will soon probably be a subject of controversy. Fire safety specialists have been alarmed over the combustibility of the material, especially in large buildings where large numbers of people frequently gather.

There are also inquiries about the compatibility of the hotel with fire safety standards, evacuation procedures, and other arrangements.
