The European Space Agency (ESA) has announced that John McFall, the first-ever astronaut with a physical disability, has been cleared for a mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS). McFall, a British surgeon and former Paralympian who lost his leg in a motorbike accident at the age of 19, expressed his immense pride in reaching this historic milestone. Since joining ESA’s astronaut reserve in 2022, he has been part of a study assessing the feasibility of astronauts with prosthetic limbs participating in space missions, marking a significant step towards greater inclusivity in space exploration.
