Shaban Moon Sighting Marks the Start of Ramadan Countdown in Pakistan

The moon of Shaban 1446 Hijri has officially been sighted in Pakistan, marking the beginning of the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. This paves the way for Ramadan 2024, which is expected to begin on March 1. The announcement followed a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in Islamabad, chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, on Thursday. After reviewing testimonies of the moon sighting, the committee confirmed January 31, 2024, as the first day of Shaban. Muslims around the world will also observe Shab-e-Barat on the 15th of Shaban, a night of forgiveness and prayer. The moon sighting remains a significant event for marking the start of key Islamic months, including Ramadan.
