Seekh Kebab is a flavorful Indian and Middle Eastern dish made from minced meat, typically lamb, chicken, or beef, mixed with spices, herbs, and sometimes onions, then shaped onto skewers and grilled. The kebabs are tender, juicy, and aromatic, often served with naan, rice, or a side of chutney or salad.
Ingredients
- For the Kebab Mixture:
- 1 1/2 pounds minced meat (lamb, chicken, or beef)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1-2 green chilies, finely chopped (optional)
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp chili powder (optional, for heat)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs (optional, for binding)
- 1-2 tbsp yogurt (optional, for moisture)
- For Cooking:
- Oil or ghee (for brushing the kebabs)
- Wooden or metal skewers for grilling
Directions
- Minced meat, chopped onion, garlic, ginger, green chilies, cilantro, mint, cumin, coriander, garam masala, chili powder, salt, lemon juice, and yogurt (if using) should all be combined in a big bowl before making Seekh Kebab.
- To help bind the mixture, add the bread crumbs and stir everything together until all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
- To allow the flavors to combine, cover the mixture and leave it for half an hour. Set the oven or grill to medium-high heat.
- Make long, cylindrical kebabs by dividing the meat mixture into small sections and shaping each portion around skewers.
- Grill the kebabs for 15 to 20 minutes, flipping them regularly, until they are cooked through and have a golden-brown crust.
- Brush them with oil or ghee.
- Serve the Seekh Kebabs hot with naan, rice, or a side of chutney.
